Every year, Americans elect thousands of representatives at various levels to govern our affairs. Where do we Muslims fit in the electoral process? What role we can play in strengthening our democratic institutions? Where can we be most effective based on our voting presence? We cannot carve out our path without looking at the electoral realities. In this series on elections, we will look at the demographic and political profile of each state and identify states and districts where our voices can be heard effectively. This first in the series is an introduction to the electoral battles shaping up in the country.

Christian Zionism espouses the return of the Jewish people to the Holy Land. It holds that the founding of the State of Israel in 1948 was by biblical prophecies in the Old Testament: that the re-establishment of Jewish sovereignty in the Levant—the eschatological “Gathering of Israel”— is a prerequisite for the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. The term began to be used in the mid- 20th century, in place of Christian restorationism, as proponents of the ideology rallied behind Zionists in support of a Jewish national homeland.

Founding President of WCMIR
World Council of Muslims for Interfaith Relations, WCMIR, was founded in June 2001 at a meeting of some sixty interfaith scholars and activists gathered from all over the world at the headquarters of the Islamic Foundation, Leicester, United Kingdom. Since then it has been striving to foster interfaith relations among people of different faiths.
Its activities include lectures, seminars, workshops, conferences, and participation and cooperation in interfaith projects initiated by different organizations in many parts of the world. These organizations include, among others, the International Peace Council, the International Engagement Project (IEP21), JUST, Malaysia, and the Parliament of the World Religions (CPWR).
WCMIR has worked in cooperation with the United Nations initiatives for Peace and many other national and international organizations. WCMIR President and other members of the Board of Directors as well as its regional representatives have been active in different parts of the world in many projects aimed at achieving peace, mutual cooperation, and understanding among people of the world.
WCMIR is making fresh initiatives to further enrich its work by providing resources that are useful for interfaith activities and activists. One such initiative is to translate the work of our founding president on enriching the understanding of the Qur’an in various languages of the world. These translations will be made available on this website under “Resources.” We will also post useful and relevant monographs and articles written by scholars and activists from around the world; please email your articles for review and posting on WCMIR website at the sole discretion of WCMIR Board. Another initiative is to organize a series of training workshops and seminars in various cities across the U. S. and abroad to benefit and get benefitted from the experiences and insights of those who are engaged in interfaith activities.
We hope to broaden our reach and engage with all those who dream for a better world in which people will have tolerance, respect and love despite ideological differences and varied opinions on resolving the conflicts around us. Let us come together toward achieving a better future for humanity.
