WCMIR Mourns the Loss of its President

In a meeting held on Sunday, March 7, 2021, WCMIR members expressed their profound grief at the passing away of Dr. Hamid Abdul Hai on Wednesday, February 24, 2021.  His loss will be felt by all of us in WCMIR as he provided guidance, leadership and support to the organization since its inception. As President since 2010, he was a motivating force for our interfaith work.  Dr. Hamid was very humble and concerned about the situation of Muslims in particular and the humanity at large. He was co-chair of the Muslim Initiatives at the 1993 Parliament of the World’s Religions in Chicago.  Subsequently he attended and presented papers at the Parliament’s international conferences in Cape Town, South Africa (1999), Barcelona, Spain (2004) and Salt Lake City, Utah (2015).  He was known for his in-depth knowledge of Islam and Qur’an in addition to his distinguished career in the field of cardiology both as an educator and as a physician practitioner. He was a founding member and a former President of the Islamic Medical Association of North America (IMANA).

WCMIR extends heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. May Allah shower His blessing upon him, forgive his shortcomings and enter him into the highest reaches of Jannatul Firdous.  The condolence meeting concluded with a formal prayer for the deceased by Mufti Barkatullah.
